Today, as we honor the 79th anniversary of United Nations Day, we celebrate the establishment of the UN Charter in 1945—a pivotal moment in history. This day serves as a reminder of the UN's enduring mission to foster peace, security, and human rights worldwide.
The United Nations has long been a beacon of hope and unity for the global community, addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges, from humanitarian crises to climate change and peacekeeping efforts. As we reflect on its critical role, it’s clear that the United States Congress must continue to prioritize and support the UN’s mission and funding.
I believe in the invaluable contributions the UN makes in fostering international cooperation and promoting human rights. The United Nations is not just a symbol of global diplomacy, but a lifeline for millions of people around the world who depend on its programs and initiatives. U.S. support ensures that these efforts can continue, building a safer, more just, and sustainable world for all.
As someone born into a dictatorship and adopted by an American family, I am especially proud to support the work of the UN and its commitment to building a better, more just world for all. The UN’s mission aligns deeply with core American values: democracy, equality, and peace. By maintaining strong financial and diplomatic support for the organization, the U.S. strengthens its leadership on the global stage and reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism.
It’s essential that Congress remains steadfast in funding the UN, recognizing that an investment in the United Nations is an investment in the future of humanity.
